What is dental bonding?

When a person has small dental flaws like chipped, cracked, or misshapen teeth, our dentist may recommend dental bonding. During the procedure, a tooth-colored material is applied to the surface of the tooth or teeth to improve the appearance of the smile. The shade of the resin material can be selected to match that of your natural teeth or a shade can be selected that lightens the appearance of the teeth.

What should I expect during treatment?

Once the shade of the dental bonding material has been selected, the surface of the tooth to be treated will be roughened. This will allow the bonding material to attach properly to the tooth. The bonding material is then applied and molded by Dr. Douglas F. Smith. A special light may be used to cure the material. Then, the material will be trimmed and shaped further. The final restoration will be polished.

How do I care for bonded teeth?

No special care is needed for bonded teeth. Simply care for the treated teeth in the same way that you would your untreated teeth. Brush your teeth twice daily and floss them at least once daily.
